Two well-groomed, gray-haired Caucasian woman in a natural setting occupy each side of a split frame. These are my mother and her oldest friend, their vaguely Patrician looks in tension with their actions: mouthing some silent, non-verbal communication. In fact, during the shoot they were played a soundtrack of vocalizations of monsters of various kinds, compiled from sci fi and horror films. I asked them to try to be the beings they imagined were making those sounds.
